Free Comic Book Day FAQ

So what is Free Comic Book Day?

It’s a day every year when comic book shops hand out free comics to people.  It’s not compulsory, you don’t get arrested by the comic shop police if you don’t do it, but pretty much every shop does.

Are the comics actually free?

Yes.  We will have 16 different titles that we will be giving out.

Ah, so not everything?

No, you can’t just come in and pick stuff off the shelves and walk out.  That’s still against the law.

So what can I get?

Just by coming into the shop you can pick out one comic to take away for free!  If you buy anything (and I mean anything) then you can take another two!

We will have the following titles:

Star Wars

Minecraft the manga

Amazing spiderman ultimate universe

Godzilla

Best of 2000 AD

Megaman

Conan

Transformers

I hate fairyland

Fantastic Four

Archie

Thundercats and PowerPuff Girls

Energon Universe

Power Rangers Prime

Issak

& also 25 copies of "Outbreak", which is a self-published comic by Will Robson.  He's only made 100 copies and we're the only shop to have some apart from the Forbidden Planet where he's doing a signing on the day, and one other Forbidden Planet branch.

These comics are normally not reprinted and are written especially for this day.

How many free comics will you have?

About 500 across those titles

Do you have any idea how busy it will be?

Not really.  This is the first year we’ve done this so it might be a bit chaotic, or it might be that we’re stood around with nobody in the shop.  Who knows?!  The uncertainty is exciting!

What happens if I arrive and the title I want is gone?

It’s strictly first come, first served.  We won’t reserve anything.  We open at 10am.

I guess that this is a really big day in the comic shop calendar, what else will you be doing?

We’re giving a discount on all monthly titles of 10% and we’ve got grab bags of either 3 or 7 comics, that you can buy for either £5 or £10 (and we’ll probably have bowls of sweets to give out too).

What?!? But that means I can get 10 comics for £10 (if I include the free ones)!  That’s unreal! 

I know, right.  What a world!

Will the shop be able to stay open despite this mega give-away?

Who knows?!  The uncertainty is exciting!
